The man behind the mask

Chris Whaley

International author. Southern Baptist pastor. Former professional wrestler. Actor. Motivational speaker. His story is improbable; his message is grounded in faith.

A Florida beginning

Called to more than one arena.

Chris grew up in Auburndale, Florida, and graduated from Auburndale High School in 1972. He earned his degree from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 1976, completed a Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988, and received a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2007.

Long before his books reached readers and his life inspired a feature film, Chris learned to connect with people in two very different places: the wrestling ring and the local church.

A call to ministry

Chris retired from professional wrestling and pastored three Florida churches. He later served on staff at First Baptist Orlando.

Drawing from real experiences in wrestling and ministry, Chris wrote The Masked Saint. More novels followed, each carrying a distinct blend of faith, humanity, and hope.
